Frequently asked

Does my file get uploaded to a server?

No. Every operation on Papyrus runs inside your browser using WebAssembly. Your file is read from disk into your tab’s memory, processed there, and written back out as a download. Watch the network counter in the header — it stays at zero from the moment you add a file.

Can this crack a password I don’t know?

No. Unlock only works when you can already open the file with its password — it removes the protection, it doesn’t break it.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After your first visit the app and its WebAssembly engines are cached by a service worker, so you can process files with no internet connection at all — the ultimate proof nothing is being uploaded.
