Protect a PDF with a password
Add AES-256 encryption to a PDF so it can’t be opened without the password. The password and file never leave your browser — encryption happens locally in WebAssembly.
How it stays private
Frequently asked
Does my file get uploaded to a server?
No. Every operation on Papyrus runs inside your browser using WebAssembly. Your file is read from disk into your tab’s memory, processed there, and written back out as a download. Watch the network counter in the header — it stays at zero from the moment you add a file.
What if I forget the password?
There is no recovery — the encryption is real. Keep the password somewhere safe; not even Papyrus can open the file without it.
Does it work offline?
Yes. After your first visit the app and its WebAssembly engines are cached by a service worker, so you can process files with no internet connection at all — the ultimate proof nothing is being uploaded.
