Compress a PDF

Make a PDF smaller so it fits an email or upload limit. Lossless mode rewrites the file and keeps text selectable; Strong mode re-renders pages to images for the smallest possible size. You’ll see the before/after size and how much you saved.

Frequently asked

Does my file get uploaded to a server?

No. Every operation on Papyrus runs inside your browser using WebAssembly. Your file is read from disk into your tab’s memory, processed there, and written back out as a download. Watch the network counter in the header — it stays at zero from the moment you add a file.

What’s the difference between Lossless and Strong?

Lossless rewrites and re-compresses the file structure — text stays selectable. Strong renders each page to a JPEG image and rebuilds the PDF, which is much smaller but the text is no longer selectable.

Can it get my file under a specific size?

Strong mode lets you pick a target quality/DPI; for hard limits, try Strong at 96 DPI and check the resulting size before downloading.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After your first visit the app and its WebAssembly engines are cached by a service worker, so you can process files with no internet connection at all — the ultimate proof nothing is being uploaded.
