Redact a PDF
Draw boxes over sensitive content. Papyrus doesn’t just paint over it — it re-renders the affected pages so the underlying text is genuinely gone, then strips document metadata. All locally.
How it stays private
Frequently asked
Does my file get uploaded to a server?
No. Every operation on Papyrus runs inside your browser using WebAssembly. Your file is read from disk into your tab’s memory, processed there, and written back out as a download. Watch the network counter in the header — it stays at zero from the moment you add a file.
Is the text really removed, or just hidden?
Really removed. The affected pages are rasterised so the original text objects no longer exist in the file — unlike drawing a black rectangle, which leaves the text copyable underneath.
Does it work offline?
Yes. After your first visit the app and its WebAssembly engines are cached by a service worker, so you can process files with no internet connection at all — the ultimate proof nothing is being uploaded.
