Make a scanned PDF searchable (OCR)

Recognise the text in a scanned PDF and add an invisible, selectable text layer over the images — so you can search and copy. Recognition runs entirely in your browser; pick your language and go.

Frequently asked

Does my file get uploaded to a server?

No. Every operation on Papyrus runs inside your browser using WebAssembly. Your file is read from disk into your tab’s memory, processed there, and written back out as a download. Watch the network counter in the header — it stays at zero from the moment you add a file.

Which languages are supported?

English is bundled; other language packs are downloaded on demand from this site and cached locally the first time you use them.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After your first visit the app and its WebAssembly engines are cached by a service worker, so you can process files with no internet connection at all — the ultimate proof nothing is being uploaded.
